Independent Aussie travel agencies join forces

Two Melbourne-based independent travel agencies have come together to form what they’ve dubbed a “dynamic new offering” in the industry.

Rob and Karen Mackie of Trans World Travel, a Virtuoso member, will join forces with Yvonne Verstandig of the newly established Y Travel.

Y Travel’s focus is on helping clients discover their travel passions through a unique curatory process, all aimed at expanding people’s experiences and knowledge.

The new venture will also benefit from strategic and business advice from Verstandig’s husband, Allan, who is a senior consultant with chartered accounting firm HLB Mann Judd.

“Being in business for 41 years, we now welcome Yvonne to lead us into the next stage of the resurgence for our beloved industry,” Mr Mackie said.

“Yvonne needs no introduction to our industry. She was one of three co-founders of Executive Edge Travel and brings to us a wealth of knowledge, experience, passion and creative energy, helping evolve our company for the next challenging and thrilling chapter.”

Verstandig said: “After looking up to Rob as an icon in our luxury travel world, I am beyond excited to join him, Karen and their Trans World family.

“Together, we will help set the scene for the traveller of the future.”

During the lack of travel activity during the COVID-19 pandemic, Verstandig said she has been busy reassessing and defining new opportunities after 20 years building and growing Executive Edge Travel with Gary Reichenberg, Sally Bird and the rest of the agency’s team.

“I strongly believe in the power of travel, be it locally or abroad. I know firsthand the enrichment it can bring to our lives,” she said.

“Our clients are so eager to explore again, and I cannot wait to introduce them to a more considered purpose to travel. I am ready and eager to embark on this new venture with the team and cannot wait to deliver this new vision.”
