Former Jetstar pilot brothers launch meat subscription service

Former Jetstar pilot brothers launch meat subscription service

Yes, you read that headline correctly.

In an unusual pivot, two brothers who previously worked as pilots for Jetstar before the global pandemic hit, have launched a paddock-to-plate meat subscription service, the Cairns Post has reported.

The brothers, Damien and Rob Moffatt, chose to return to their roots when travel was shelved in March, launching Butcher Crowd.

According to the company’s website, the Mofatts grew up on the Atherton Tablelands with a lifestyle that provided meat direct from the family farm, sparking their passion for ethical farming practices.

“We had a chance to get back to our roots and share good meat with Australia,” Co-director Damien Moffatt told the Cairns Post.

“We were already sourcing meat from the Tablelands to share with family and friends.”

The brothers have created stringent guidelines for their product, sourcing high quality, ethically raised, antibiotic and hormone-free meat with 100 per cent traceability to each farm.

“The challenge was finding producers that aligned with our values and ethics,” Moffatt said.

“Ninety-five per cent of Australian pork is pen-raised, there is only seven per cent farm-raised.

“The response from farmers has been really good, we cut out the middleman and can pay them a higher price while offering a saving to customers.”

In October, the company posted to their Facebook page announcing that they were going national and now deliver to most areas in Australia.

“We are based in Cairns but our logistics manager is in Sydney,” Moffatt said.

“We still have a substantial base of customers here.”

The company delivers four varieties of small or large boxes of meat to your door on a subscription or one-time basis.
