Webjet’s Shelley Beasley fills vacant spot on AFTA board

Webjet has strengthened its ties with the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) by joining its board of directors.

Shelley Beasley, group chief commercial officer at Webjet, will fill the remaining board vacancy at AFTA after the company joined the association as a member and became ATAS accredited last month.

AFTA chair Tom Manwaring said: “We are pleased to welcome Shelley Beasley to the AFTA board following Webjet becoming ATAS accredited and an AFTA member.

“Now, more than ever, we need to speak with one voice in order to secure government support, and having Webjet as part of the AFTA family amplifies our impact.”

Commenting on her appointment, Beasley said: “I am delighted to be joining the AFTA board as Webjet’s representative at this challenging time for our industry.

“I look forward to working closely with my fellow directors and the AFTA team as we navigate our way through the COVID-19 impact to recovery and beyond.”

Spiros Alysandratos (Consolidated Travel), Julie Primmer (Helloworld Travel), Andrew Macfarlane (Magellan Travel), Graham “Skroo” Turner (Flight Centre Travel Group), David Smith (Flight Centre Travel Group), and Ian Edwards (CT Partners) are all up for reappointment as AFTA board directors at the annual general meeting on 23 September.

The association has received two board nominations: Simon te Hennepe (Travlr) and Michelle Emerton (Australian Travel Agents Co-operative).
