Award-winning tourism company founder dies in helicopter crash

The founder of a well-known Aussie tourism company has tragically been killed in a helicopter crash in Western Australia.

Troy Thomas (pictured above, right) was piloting a Robinson R44 helicopter when it crashed in the Broome suburb of Bilingurr on Saturday afternoon, and died as a result. Police said a 12-year-old girl also died as a result of the crash.

Another adult and child – believed to be Thomas’ daughter – were taken to hospital in critical conditions.

Thomas was the founder of Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures, a tour company that has been providing luxury adventure tours in the Kimberley since 2006.

The company was sold to Journey Beyond last year, and has been repeatedly recognised at the Australian Tourism Awards over the past few years.

Thomas had been involved in Western Australia’s tourism industry since starting his own Broome fishing charter at 18 years of age.
