AFTA appoints new member to management team
The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) has appointed Melinda Larkin to the role of head of education and training.
According to a release from AFTA, this new position will form an important part of the organisation’s management team and will help lead and aims to drive education and training outcomes for the travel industry on a national basis.
Larkin’s background is in skills, workforce, education and careers development where she has led a distinguished career in a range of roles including with Family Business Australia, Service Skills Australian, Australian Council for Private Education and Training and the Australian Retailers Association.
“We are delighted to have Melinda Larkin join AFTA at this time to head our education and training agenda and policy areas at a time when much more is needed to be done for the future of those working in the travel industry and those considering joining,” said Jayson Westbury AFTA chief executive.
“Melinda will be able to hit the ground running as she is well versed in the many complex areas of Education and Training governance and has an extensive network within the government, vocational education and training and travel and tourism educators.”
“I am really excited to be joining AFTA and the travel industry at this important time in the evolution of skills for future careers in travel,” said Larkin.
“Travel agents and the education of the industry is paramount and I can’t wait to get started to support AFTA members and guide AFTA through the many processes and requirements to get good outcomes for all involved.”
Larkin will commence on a full-time basis working from the AFTA Sydney office on Monday 25th November.
