Plane forced into emergency landing after engine part comes loose, bounces around mid-air

A female passenger on a jet aircraft grips the seat armrest from fear of flying.

Passengers onboard a Delta Air Lines flight have suffered a scare after a plane was forced to make an emergency landing due to a loose engine part.

Delta flight 1425 from Atlanta to Baltimore was diverted to Raleigh in North Carolina approximately halfway through its journey, after the crew become aware that one of the plane engine’s nose cones had become loose and was bouncing around inside a jet turbine.

One of the passengers onboard the flight managed to capture some scary footage of the nose cone – also known as a spinner – moving about as the plane was flying.

Another passenger praised Delta’s pilots and flight crew for remaining so calm during the incident.

In a statement to Travel Weekly, a Delta spokesperson said: “The flight crew of Delta flight 1425 from Atlanta to Baltimore elected to divert to Raleigh, N.C. after an issue with one of the aircraft’s engines was observed.

“The flight landed without incident and customers were re-accommodated on an alternate aircraft. We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience this diversion may have caused.”
