Slovenia erects chainsaw hewn Melania Trump statue, internet explodes

Of the many, many charms Slovenia boasts capable of luring Australian travellers to the tiny Balkan nation’s borders, we believe this Melania Trump statue (pictured above) isn’t one of them.

Sparking outrage from locals and sending the social-sphere into melt-down, the wooden carving of America’s First Lady has been erected near her childhood home of Sevnica, in the foothills of the Slovene Alps.

The usually sleepy village is now home to the work designed by US artist Brade Downey and created by artist Ales Zupevc with a chainsaw. It is supposed to depict her wearing the iconic blue outfit she wore to President Donald Trump’s inauguration in 2017.

Sevnica has seen a robust spike in tourists visiting it since the Trumps entered the White House, so it’s little wonder the local municipality took it upon itself to deliver a focal point for the attraction.

We wonder how long it will take for some enterprising local to start selling hand-held replicas of the life-size original.

Slovenia is the world’s first country to be declared a Global Green Destination, and is among the most sustainable on the planet. The Slovenian Tourist Board also recently revealed its tourism goals for 2019 during its week-long roadshow to Australia and New Zealand.

Taking tourists to see the soon to be iconic statue of Melania Trump was not on the list.
