Clear intentions crucial for making lasting connections, says networking strategist

Knowing who you are and having clear intentions are key to making valuable connections easily and controlling your brand, according to a prominent digital networking strategist.

Speaking at the Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings Event (AIME) 2019 in Melbourne on Monday, Dr Dannielle Di-Masi urged attendees not to worry about the tech side when making connections.

“We always want to come back to what the human answer is [for any interaction we have], because sometimes I think we can forget that it is just two human beings connecting,” she said.

Di-Masi stressed how easy it is to make a valuable connection with someone if you have a clear intention of it being meaningful.

“You have to have the intention to make sure that you see them and that you matter to them,” she told attendees.

“Relationships work because we both know what we’re here for.”

The networking specialist also highlighted the importance of knowing who you are in making connections and controlling your brand.

“If you can’t answer ‘who am I?’, then how is anyone going to be able to connect with you to have a relationship with you?” she said.

“That’s the only way that you can control your brand; if you can constantly communicate who you are.”
