“Price isn’t the barrier it once was” Intrepid and Chimu launch new Antarctica trips
Intrepid Group and Chimu Adventures have launched a new program of Antarctica trips!
Under the Peregrine Adventures flag, the new range of sustainable, small-group polar expeditions will be kicking off in October 2020 on the newly refurbished Ocean Endeavour.
The trips mark the next step in the joint partnership between Intrepid and Chimu, making the two companies one of the largest sellers of Antarctica globally.
Intrepid Group CEO James Thornton told Travel Weekly returning to Antarctica under the Peregrine flag really is a proud moment for the adventure travel company.
“Not only because it means that we’re now a truly seven continent operator, or because the Peregrine Adventures brand is returning to its pioneering roots in Antarctica – but because it’s the next step forward in our Adventure Cruising and shipping plans,” he said.
“It’s the next step in our partnership with Chimu Adventures and we couldn’t be happier to be doing this with another Australian owned travel company with strong values that we align with.”
The Ocean Endeavour carries 199 travellers and has a range of accommodation options, including single cabins, as well as a health and wellness centre on board with saunas, a well-equipped gym, yoga classes, and a salt water pool.
Travellers will have the chance to explore the White Continent on a range of optional activities with specialised guides such as sea kayaking, snowshoeing, photography tours and even ice-camping.
All departures will be carbon offset and eco-friendly measures will include no single-use plastic onboard, a reusable water bottle for every guest and only sustainable seafood will be served onboard.
“We believe this will create a new generation of people who want to protect the planet,” Thornton told us.
“Once you see how fragile the Antarctic ecosystem is, you are inspired to do all you can to halt climate change.
“Like all our trips around the world, our Polar cruises will be carbon offset. We’ve also removed single used plastics and will only serve sustainable seafood.”
With voyages starting from AUD$7090, Thornton said the new polar program makes the Antarctic more affordable than ever before, without compromising on sustainable tourism.
“[Antarctica] is truly is the trip of a lifetime – but that doesn’t mean you have to wait until you’re rich or retired to go there,” he said.
“You might think that Antarctica is too expensive and hard to get to, but this just isn’t the case. Price isn’t the barrier it once was. Plan well ahead and keep an eye out for earlybird sales.”
