With over tourism having a significant impact on some of the worlds most visited tourist destinations, travellers are becoming more drawn off-the-beaten-track destinations with more experiential travel opportunities.

If you’re one to dodge the over-crowded destinations for something a little less touristy, you’ll want to get on top of these destinations that are set to face HUGE surges in tourism by 2025.

Using data from Euromonitor, TravelSupermarket has uncovered which cities will have the fastest growing projected tourist arrivals for 2025 compared with 2017.

24 out of 25 of the destinations on the list are in Asia, so you’re going to want to pop over there ASAP if you want to ditch the crowd.

Turns out Jakarta, Indonesia is going to see the biggest increase, going from 3.6 million tourists in 2017 to 7.2 million in 2025. That’s more than double.

Jakarta old city, Indonesia

Denpasar in Bali is ranked second, with a 97 per cent increase from 6.2 million to 12.3 million. Looks like the world has caught on to Australia’s Bali obsession.

Despite Indonesia’s high rankings, India has the highest overall number of destinations set to increase, including Jaipur, Agra, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta and Chennai.
