Airline considers alcohol limit after drunk tourists wreak havoc on flight

An Ibiza-bound flight has been forced to divert to Paris after a group of 20 holidaymakers were involved in a drunken disturbance.

And yes, these tourists may have just ruined it for all the responsible drinkers out there.

Like us of course.

Three passengers out of the 20 that caused a disturbance were removed and detained by French authorities on the Ryanair flight from Dublin to party island Ibiza, upon arrival at Paris’ Beauvais airport, causing the plane to be delayed by more than two hours and 40 minutes.

As per The Irish Sun, the captain said there were children on board the flight and that the flight was diverted for safety concerns of all of the passengers on board.

He also added that the unruly passengers had been drinking at Dublin Airport prior to take-off.

Robin Kiely a Ryanair spokesman said: “The aircraft landed normally and the passengers were removed and detained by police upon arrival before the aircraft continued to Ibiza.”

“We will not tolerate unruly or disruptive behaviour at any time and the safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority.”

“This is now a matter for local police,” he added.

According to Ireland’s RTE, the airline has called for restrictions on alcohol sales, specifically a two-drink limit for passengers and a total ban on alcohol sales before 10am.

“It’s incumbent on the airports to introduce these preventative measures to curb excessive drinking and the problems it creates, rather than allowing passengers to drink to excess before their flights,” Kiely said.

As per RTE, a spokesperson for Dublin Airport said: “The behaviour of some individuals on the Ryanair flight in question was clearly unacceptable.”

Dublin Airport promised to remind license holders in the airport’s bars and restaurants of their responsibility when serving alcohol.

However, they also added that Ryanair’s suggested drink restrictions are “highly draconian” and would “affect all passengers because of the behaviour of a very, very small minority of airline travellers”.

This is not the first time Ryanair has been tied up in an alcohol-fuelled incident, after a 30-year-old father-of-two recently sexually assaulted a passenger and flight attendant, and shoved another cabin crew member, after drinking half a bottle of vodka and four ciders at the airport on a flight from Riga to Manchester.
