Pet projects: meet Juvey

Pet projects: meet Juvey

This week, we’ll be introducing you to some of the cutest faces in travel.

Each day this week, you’ll get to meet a very loyal member of the animal kingdom and their travel industry owners!

Today’s very good boy is Juvey, the three-legged dog!

Juvey’s owner is Uniworld’s head of sales, Beanca Daluz.

Here’s Beanca’s story.

I adopted Juvey when he was 18 months old from Sydney Dogs and Cats Home about eight and a half years ago.

Back then he had four legs.

I adopted him with an ex-partner and at the time he was our Valentine’s present to each other.

His name was an abbreviation of Juvenile.

You can probably guess why.

In August 2016 he started to limp and quickly became lame.

After a misdiagnosis from two vets, he was rushed to EVES in Rose Bay where after further tests they discovered he had osteosarcoma (a very aggressive and painful cancer) on his left shoulder.

This explained his constant howls of pain.

We had to make a quick decision to either put him to sleep or amputate to save his life.

At the time he was 45kg and vets were not sure a large dog of his size would cope.

They had warned that even after the amputation his life expectancy would be three to six months.

We weren’t ready to let him go as he still had the will to live.

After the amputation, he had months of IV, chemotherapy and home chemotherapy.

And he is still with us after 17 months!

We are grateful for every day we have with him.
