Pictures: World record breaking hotels
Don’t you love it when Hotels get creative?
We do.
In fact, we spent our morning pouring over the Guinness World Records website in search of the most gimmicky hotels, from largest to smallest, sandiest to coldest.
Let’s start off with the basics, shall we?
The world’s smallest hotel: Eh’Hausl Hotel, Germany
Situated in Amberg, Germany, this little cutie has an overall floor space of 53 meters square and can accommodate no more than two guests at any given time.
Does that really count as a hotel?
Guinness World Records seems to think so.
Largest hotel: First World Hotel, Malaysia.
A part of Resort World Genting in Pahang Darul Makmur, Malasia, First World Hotel has 7,351 operational rooms and a very funky colour scheme.
Oldest hotel: Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan, Japan
This incredibly picturesque inn has been open since 705 A.D.
That’s 1,300 years! If you think that’s a lot to take in, it’s also been in the same family for 52 generations.
Coldest hotel: Icehotel, Sweden
Yep, this place is made of ice. Located in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, Icehotel is rebuilt every winter and has a total floor area of 5,500 square meters, making it the world’s largest ice structure.
Largest hotel suite: Grand Hills Hotel and Spa, Lebanon
It’s called the royal residence for a reason.
This suite, located in the Grand Hills Hotel, Lebanon, is 4,131 square meters, has its own private entrance and features a whopping six floors plus private gardens and swimming pools.
First underwater hotel: Jules’ Undersea Lodge, United States
This one is a little on the unusual side…
Jules’ Undersea Lodge sits at the bottom of the Emerald Lagoon in Key Largo, Florida.
Previously a research laboratory, the site became a hotel in 1986.
You have to be a certified scuba diver to reach it, but once you’re there you can get pizza delivered to your room via wetsuit-wearing room service attendants.
I think we can all agree, anything that involves pizza is worth doing.
First habitable sand hotel: sculpted by Mark Anderson, UK
If you ever find yourself holidaying in Weymouth beach in Dorset, UK, be sure to spend the night in this giant sand castle.
Ahem, we mean hotel.
The place took a total of 600 hours to complete and can house a family of three, featuring only one double and one single “bed” with a sea view.
Plus its only around $40 AUD per night.
Bargain.
Hotel with the largest ouija board on the roof: Grand Midway Hotel, United States.
Ok, we admit we’re reaching a little bit with this one.
But it’s just so bloody cool we had to include it.
The Grand Midway Hotel is in Pennsylvania, USA, is home to filmmaker Blair Murphy but still houses a select few guests.
According to its owner, it’s super haunted, so what better way to appease disgruntled spirits that asking them to have a chat?
