Holy street hawkers – how about this new travel partnership?!

Because good things always come in twos, Singapore Airlines and Tourism Malaysia are hoping to be the proof in the pudding, teaming up to boost tourism arrivals to Malaysia.

The home of spicy smells, sexy buildings and sacred culture, it makes sense the two travel giants sign their first-ever Marketing Collaboration Memorandum.

The two-year marriage was signed at this year’s ITB Berlin, which is proving to be one heck of a busy conference centre, and will come into play from April 1 2016, with both parties jointly exploring and implementing activities to get the tourist traffic numbers up to Malaysia via the Singapore hub by way of SIA and SilkAir’s services.

SIA and Tourism Malaysia have agreed to play nice and work together on advertising and promotional campaigns, as well as familiarisation programmes for travel trade and media (fingers crossed us), among other initiatives.

“Singapore Airlines and SilkAir together serve nearly 100 destinations in 35 countries, making us well positioned to support the development of tourism in Malaysia and the broader ASEAN region as a whole,” SIA divisional vice president sales and marketing Foo Chai Woo said.

Director general of Tourism Malaysia, Datuk Seri Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, added, “Tourism Malaysia is proud to associate with Singapore Airlines to provide convenient access to the varied and unique tourist attractions of Malaysia within a short flight from Singapore. In particular Borneo (Sabah & Sarawak), Langkawi, Penang and East Coast of Malaysia.”

SIA and SilkAir currently operate a total of 111 flights per week to five destinations in Malaysia from Singapore.
