Travellers rank what’s most important when flying

Australians are unwilling to pay for added extras but rank sleep as the most important pastime for a long haul flight, Expedia Australia has released.

The survey, conducted across 22 countries, found that Australians are in it for the comfort, rather than the in-flight facilities when it comes to flying.

“Aussies are known for being passionate travellers who like to get out there and explore the world as often as they can.

“Satisfied with the basic comforts on a flight, Aussies could be choosing to maximise their hard-earned dollars on the ground rather than spending money on additional comforts in the air,” said Kelly Cull, Expedia travel expert.

Australians were the nationality least likely to pay for extra leg room, a full meal or a wider seat on varying flight lengths, according to the survey. Canada came close as the other nation unwilling to pay for these small luxuries in the air.

Only one in ten Australian participants said they would opt for chic plane-wear over comfort when dressing for a flight; and when asked what the essential plane travel item was, Australians rated water as number one.

Travellers from Mexico, South Korea and Thailand, on the other hand, rated a mobile device most important.

The country-by-country basis of the survey also found that the frequent fliers are among the nations of Norway (47%), Mexico (42%), India (38%) and Singapore (36%).
