Cruise conference aims to continue momentum
By admin

The Australian Cruise Association has confirmed details of its 20th anniversary conference, with the announcement coming on the back of an “exciting time” for the cruise industry.

The conference will take place in Sydney at the Four Seasons Hotel from September 7 to 9.

Earlier this week, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) released the 2016 State of the Cruise Industry Outlook, which showed that worldwide cruise travel continues to grow and evolve at a record pace. Nearly 24 million passengers are expected to sail in 2016, a dramatic rise on the 15 million in 2006.

The report specifically highlighted Australia’s continued record growth, commenting on the six-fold surge in local passenger numbers over the past decade.

“We are delighted to continue the momentum by announcing this major event which will celebrate our members who play a key role in this $3.3B industry,” Australian Cruise Association chief executive Jill Abel said.

The association represents the interests of a broad cross section of the cruise industry including regional ports, national and state tourism agencies, shipping agents, security contractors, provedores and inbound tour operators.

“We want to recognise the vital role our members play as the unsung heroes behind the scenes of this amazingly powerful industry,” Abel said.

“We will help them grow in this role by providing them with rich information and new insights from the speakers while also allowing them the opportunity to network with some of the major players on the global stage.”

The venue for the conference was selected for its close proximity to the Overseas Passenger Terminal and the harbour where the hospitality events, while still to be confirmed, will be based.

The event, sponsored by the Port Authority of NSW and Destination NSW, will include plenary and workshop sessions on a range of topics critical to the future of the industry.

Keynote speakers, some of whom will be drawn from the international cruise markets, will offer delegates an additional insight into the rapidly expanding market segment.
