How to get a leg up on Halal travel terms

With Halal travel now worth billions annually, there’s no time like the present to get your head around the various terms associated.

The travel sector, which is speculated to be worth as much as $200 billion by 2020, has welcomed the world’s first glossary on the terminology used in Halal travel.

CrescentRating, a leading authority on Halal travel, has published a fresh new guide that promotes accurate and consistent use of terms in the Halal travel market. Over 150 terms and concepts have been entered and validated, with regular updates planned as the market matures.

Users can obtain a quick list of terms through the glossary, which has been divided into sections for easy navigation. It has been published as a free downloadable e-book with plans to make it an online resource in the near future.

“Embracing the Halal travel phenomenon is now a key focus of growth across the industry for both OIC and non-OIC destinations,” CrescentRating’s ceo Fazal Bahardeen said.

“With an increasing number of destinations and services looking to attract Muslim traveller, there is a need to better understand the terms used to describe the market needs and practices related to this segment.”

The glossary includes terms which provide an overview of Halal travel and its core values, with each of these being defined in the context of lifestyle and travel.

The e-book also covers faith-related terms used to describe the needs and practices of Muslim travellers.

The first edition of the glossary is now available in English with plans to publish it in other languages in the future.

Key features of the e-book include:

  • Over 150 key terms and expressions
  • Classification of concepts by 16 subject fields
  • Fully validated content
  • Context provided for the terms
  • First edition released in English with plans to publish the glossary in multiple languages in the near future
  • Glossary available as free downloadable e-book

But while you wait for your e-book to download, here’s the top 12 terms to start you off.
