TripAdvisor makes the move to your wrist

TripAdvisor is jumping the gun in the tech realm, launching its Apple Watch app ahead of the watch itself.

The app, with features designed purposely for the new gadget on everyone’s lips, provides access to reviews, ratings and photos of hotels, restaurants and attractions.

The Apple Watch has a new feature on it known as ‘Glances’, which allows users to get updates from their favourite apps with just a swipe on the watch face.

The TripAdvisor Glance has subsequently been designed to show timely recommendations to help users discover trendy hotspots in their area, using a GPS and time of day.

TripAdvisor Glance will, for example, recommend a high-rated restaurant around noon for those feeling a bit peckish.

“With the launch of the TripAdvisor Apple Watch app, users can now carry the invaluable insights of millions of travelers on their wrists,” TripAdvisor’s senior vice president of global product, Adam Medros  said.

“Whether around town or traveling somewhere new, the app helps make exploring on-the-go even more elegant and effortless.”

Other features of TripAdvisor’s watch app include walking directions using GPS technology using Apple Maps, a saves feature to save favourite restaurants, attractions and hotels to check out later, and search options that let travellers search for fun things within one, five and 10 miles according to popularity or distance.

The TripAdvisor Apple Watch app will be available from the Apple Watch App Store beginning April 24. The TripAdvisor iPhone app is available now as a free download from the App Store.
