End of airfare war still good for Qantas

Qantas continues to increase the amount of revenue generated per customer thanks to a truce in its battle with Virgin Australia for domestic market share.

The two airlines have been reducing the number of seats offered to domestic travellers since taking massive financial hits in the 2013/14 financial year.

Qantas further reduced domestic capacity in February and in turn lifted its yield, or the average fare paid per kilometre, in its domestic business.

Yield rose in all of its other businesses, which includes Jetstar and its international business, during February.

The airline carried 3.65 million passengers in February, roughly in line with the same month in 2014.

Virgin no longer reports monthly customer numbers.
