Smelly airport to inspire travel

By admin

In a bid to inspire travellers to explore new destinations, London’s Heathrow Airport has bottled up bespoke scents from five nations to lure holidaymakers to the follow their nose to its misting globe in Terminal 2.

The five scents for misting from Africa, Brazil, Japan, China and Thailand were specifically created by Design in Scent as part of a “unique experience” for travellers passing through the terminal, skift reports.

“We strive to offer a unique experience that delights our passengers. These specially created scents will give passengers traveling through Terminal 2 an exclusive preview of destinations that only Heathrow connects to,” Heathrow’s chief operating officer, Normand Boivin told skift.

South Africa’s scent is said to capture safari adventures with a note of tribal and was “harvested without disturbing the animals”, according to the report, while Brazil’s aroma “embraces the scents of its rich rainforest fauna with a palette of coffee, tobacco and jasmine”.

Japan includes “a mix of seaweed and shell extracts, green tea and Ambergris [a waxy substance, solidified in the digestive systems of whales]”, while China includes a “mystical temple incense and subtle Osmanthus Fragrans [an exotic flower native to China],” and Thailand “tantalises the taste buds with an appetising mix of lemongrass, ginger and coconut”, the report stated.
