Cape Town Tourism has marked its 10-year anniversary with a festive AGM at the Tsogo Sun in Cape Sun last week.

Along with marking its first decade, the organisation announced that it had secured a three-year partnership with the City of Cape Town that will allow them to continue to be the official visitor services and tourism marketing provided for the region.

Up until now, this agreement had been on a yearly basis, however has now been awarded to Cape Town Tourism for the next three, with the agreement worth over AUD$12.5 million.

The event was attended by over 400 guests, with the attendees listening to speakers such as Cape Town Tourism’s CEO Enver Duminy, who said the celebration marked a milestone on which the future of tourism would be built.

“Whilst we have always held a long-term vision, the three year cycle allows us to be more strategic about how we execute our plans,” Duminy said.

The organisation stated it would focus on seasonality in its strategies, with campaigns created to encourage visitors in each season.

Cape Town Tourism’s winter campaign for 2014 had shown a 20% increase in weekend packages sold year on year, with the organisation planning an accelerated winter campaign for next year.

Events have also proved to be central to the increasing visitor numbers, with events such as the recent Cape Town Fringe Festival attracting 10,000 visitors, alongside sporting events like the Cape Town Marathon and Lion of Africa Gold Tournament.

The AGM revealed a good financial year with an unqualified audit, while long-standing board members Sabine Lehmann and Nils Heckscher stepped down, voting in new board members Grant Newton from Groot Constantia and Alushca Ritchie of Cape Connection.

The formalities ended with a procession from the Cape Town Carnival and a birthday cake made by famous the Charly’s Bakery, with event sponsor Tsogo Sun providing a generous spread of food for guests.
