Tunis offers the best value for Aussie travellers when it comes to common incidental costs in a hotel, according to TripAdvisor’s recent cost comparison report.

The TripIndex Room Service report compares the cost of room service items in 48 popular worldwide destinations. The study looks at the price of a club sandwich, the dry cleaning of one shirt, a bottle of water, peanuts, a mini bottle of vodka and a can of coke.

In Tunis, the combined cost of these items will set you back only $20.39, with South Africa’s Cape Town a close second at $25.42. Compare this to Helsinki, the costliest destination of the study, and you’re looking at a cool $98.48.

“The room rate alone doesn’t give an accurate picture of what the full cost of staying at a hotel can be, especially when you see the wide range of prices for everyday room service items between destinations around the world,” said TripAdvisor spokesperson, Jean Ow-Yeong.

Closer to home, Sydney was rated the twentieth most expensive destination on the list. The selected room service items will cost you $53.58, in what is often thought of as Australia’s most expensive city.

The 48 cities on the destination list comprised of key destinations that received the largest number of international visitor arrivals in 2013, according to UNWTO.
