New structure sees Mulholland leave Adventure World
The senior executive who effectively managed Adventure World through the most challenging period in its history has left the wholesaler following its acquisition by The Travel Corporation.
Andrew Mulholland ended an often-turbulent spell at the company last week, three months after The Travel Corp took control from NRMA in a multi-million dollar deal.
He spent a year as general manager before taking the executive GM role in June 2011.
Mulholland has spent the past two months working with Adventure World’s new owners on the future strategy of the brand.
But with former Contiki boss Fiona Hunt installed as Adventure World managing director by The Travel Corp, it was felt – by both parties – that there was no meaningful long-term role for someone of Mulholland's seniority.
He will take a break over the next two months before looking for a new role in the industry.
Mulholland joins Diane Moynihan, head of sales, marketing and product, as the senior figures to leave Adventure World as it begins its new life under The Travel Corp.
The Bondi Junction-based firm is thought to have paid around $6 million for Adventure World from NRMA which made a dismal fist of its venture into travel wholesaling.
As it sunk further into the red, NRMA even considered shutting down the brand before deciding to sell the business. After lacklustre interest, Mulholland is said to have been instrumental in returning the business to profit and taking it to a point where it was regarded as an attractive investment.
Prior to joining Adventure World under then chief executive Keith Stanley, Mulholland spent just over four years at Flight Centre.
