Why posting photos of your boarding pass is a no no

Traveling hero header with copy space. Passport, tickets and traveling items

We get it, you are excited to be travelling and you want to share that, but did you know posting photos of your boarding pass on social media can be dangerous.

There is quite a bit of information printed on your boarding pass, from your full name, frequent flyer details, flight destination and sometimes even your booking number.

Most airlines online manage your booking requires just your Surname, Flight Details and sometimes you can even log in just via your frequent flyer number. Presto, someone has access to your booking which has all your details. Address, full name and passport numbers are often stored here. Worse still, it gives access to either cancel or change your booking.

Even if you think you are a savvy traveller and cover the important details, there is still the issue of the barcode. Airport computers are not the only devices that can read these. There are online barcode readers that can decipher the data held in the barcode, and presto, again your details are free game.

Identity theft is a serious issue for travellers, so be warned, keep your details secure.

Instead, maybe snap a photo of your sat sipping a glass of bubbles in the lounge, or an excited selfie at the check in gate. Better to be safe than sorry.
