Two agencies lose ATAS status

The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) has cancelled the ATAS membership of two agencies in the past week.

Golden Globe Travel and Global Travel & Cruise had their ATAS membership cancelled on 31 January and 2 February respectively.

Global Travel & Cruis, a Tweed Heads agency formerly affiliated with Helloworld, has ceased trading, according to it’s listing on Google Maps which advises the store is ‘permanently closed’. It’s Facebook page and listing on the Helloworld site have been taken down.

Golden Globe Travel, located in Westpoint Shopping Centre, Blacktown, appears to still be operating however its Facebook page has been taken down.

A notice on AFTA’s website said the two agencies lost their accreditation for breaching section 2.5 of the ATAS Charter, which outlines the eligibility criteria for accreditation. This covers everything from the ATAS definition of ‘travel intermediary’ to financial assessment.

“ATAS accreditation remains an important indication to both the trade and consumers as to dealing with a reputable travel company and we continue to be vigilant in maintaining the standards in accordance with the requirements of the ATAS Charter,” said AFTA boss Jayson Westbury.
