Tigerair gets ready for Bali launch

Tigerair Australia has unveiled the first of three Boeing 737-800 aircraft to be branded in Tigerair livery ahead of the airline’s inaugural direct services to Bali.

The three Virgin Australia aircraft have been reconfigured and rebranded in Tigerair livery ahead of the new service, the airline’s first international route, which will commence on March 23.

The low cost carrier confirmed all three will be based at Melbourne Airport. It has recently recruited over 100 new cabin crew ahead of the new international services who will all be trained in Victoria.

Speaking at the unveiling, Tigerair Australia chief executive Rob Sharp underlined the low cost carrier’s commitment to Victoria, with more than 60% of its services already touching the state.

“Tigerair Australia is proud to call Victoria and Melbourne home,” he said.

“Today’s announcement means the number of aircraft based in Victoria will grow from 7 to 10 or by more than 40% by the end of March.”

“Tigerair Australia’s new services to Bali will deliver over 2,500 additional seats through Melbourne Airport weekly. As well as more jobs and additional aircraft, today’s announcement provides numerous other benefits for the Victorian economy, tourism and consumers.”

Melbourne Airport chief executive Lyell Strambi said the basing of three additional aircraft in Melbourne “further cements Victoria’s position as Australia’s home of low fare growth”.
