QT Singapore set to open in heritage Eastern Extension Telegraph building
Edited by Travel Weekly

Bookings open today for QT Singapore, in the historic former Eastern Extension Telegraph building along Robinson Road, the first property from QT Hotels & Resorts to open outside Australian and New Zealand.

Previously Accor’s So Singapore, then the Hotel Telegraph, QT Singapore will officially launch on September 16 and will feature 134 rooms, ranging in size from 44sqm to 90sqm. Guest amenities include gym, rooftop pool, bespoke private dining spaces and a Rooftop at QT bar and grill.

Located next to the Lau Pa Sat food centre, QT Singapore opens in place of Hotel Telegraph, the boutique luxury hotel in the four-storey colonial building that shuttered on April 1.

The brand is owned by Australian hospitality company EVT, which has hotels in Australia and New Zealand.

Callum Kennedy, group general manager of EVT Hotels & Resorts, says the expansion to Singapore is a strategic move to “enhance the brand’s visibility on a global scale and serve as a launchpad into this market”.

It will be the first QT Hotel both internationally and in South-east Asia.

“Singapore is a lively and beautiful gateway city with a diverse range of demographic profiles, from business professionals to leisure tourists, and a well-loved destination for many Australians and New Zealanders,” he added.

The hotel is in the middle of Singapore’s financial district.

QT point of difference and pops of colour

QT Hotels & Resorts is currently located in 10 cities in Australia and New Zealand, such as Auckland, Melbourne and Perth, and is known for its vibrant interiors with pops of colourful furniture and decor.

The brand is also known for its colourful take on hospitality with staff, known as Directors of Chaos, greeting guests upon arrival with bright red wigs.

Doron Whaite is the newly appointed general manager coming over from QT Auckland.

“Relocating to Singapore to open the first QT in Southeast Asia is an incredible opportunity,” he said. “I am passionate about creating luxurious, memorable environments for customers whilst unlocking operational optimisation through untapped revenue channels.

“At QT, we keep the luxury and add the magic of quirk and playfulness – something we feel will bring a new energy to the Singapore hospitality scene. Guest rooms will undergo a complete floor-to-ceiling transformation, mixing prints with textures, wallpapers and colour.”

Room rates start at $499 a night for a QT King room with a king-size bed and amenities such as an espresso machine and a Dyson hairdryer.

“We’re excited by the liveliness QT will bring to Singapore’s diverse tourism landscape and ever-evolving metropolis later this year,” added Kennedy.

“QT Singapore will be championed by QT’s luxurious playful personality, from design to signature service and exciting collaborations, bringing the QT energy and vibrancy guests love from the world, to be discovered by locals and travellers in South-East Asia.”
