“Professional and relaxed”: AUNZ buyers go WILD for Rick Stein’s cooking school in Cornwall, UK
Edited by Travel Weekly

AUNZ buyers couldn’t get enough of legendary British TV chef Rick Stein’s cooking school in Padstow, Cornwall UK last week.

Buyers from the likes of Luxury Escapes, TripADeal and Flight Centre had a go at cooking some of Stein’s favourite dishes including Cornish mussels with cider, and a mild potato curry topped with smoked haddock and poached egg during the half-day event.

The luxury workshop was part of VisitBritain’s flagship ‘Showcase Britain 2024’ trade event – an educational trip for which 120 international travel buyers travelled to the UK.

The Aussies and Kiwi buyers were a huge fan of the experience, praising head lecturer Nick Evans for being both “relaxed” and “professional”.

Craig Macdonald, global product designer for Europe at Flight Centre Travel Group said the level of engagement makes it a highly attractive product offering.

“Rick Stein provided an immersive local experience which meant that customers would be able to take home something they have learnt, rather than just watched. That level of participation adds an extra layer of value to our customers – so ultimately it’s a great product to offer”.

Adam Taylor, product executive at Ignite Travel Group said it was a “great experience.”

“The detail provided by the chefs was really intricate and gave you the sense of being able to accomplish something fantastic. The presentation was great”.

Stein initially started the school to provide his chefs with intensive training in seafood, however, after widening out the offering to the public it became an instant hit – even winning a South West Tourism Gold Award For Best Learning Experience in 2019.

Packages available to guests include a stay in Rick Stein’s luxury coastal inspired rooms (complete with full-sized baths and sweeping views of the estuary) as well as dining at Stein’s legendary seafood restaurant.
