Marina Apartments to hit Kangaroo Island by end of 2023

4-star accommodation from Marina Apartments is set to arrive in Kangaroo Island at Christmas Cove by the end of the year.

Kangaroo Island, the home of Tourism Australia’s Best Australian Beach for 2023, will sport the $1.4 million Cove Landing Marina Apartments, which will feature three two-bedroom apartments with undercover parking, Wi-Fi, ethernet, electric vehicle charging stations and a 30kw solar system.

The accommodation will be a 35-minute drive from the airport, close to local shops and a five-minute walk from the Pennyshaw ferry dock. The apartments will be available for extended and short term stays.

The project is being built by Kauppila Pty Ltd and AL Assist Pty Ltd and led by developers Susan Craig and Mark Simpkin.

Craig said the project is “partially supported with a grant through the state government’s Tourism Industry Development Fund” and will support “the increasing demand for quality holiday  accommodation on Kangaroo Island.”

Craig said the Tourism Optimisation Management Model (TOMM) from 2021 and 2020 showed visitor revenue of $239m, passing the $199m for 2025.

“This growth further supports the need for high quality tourist accommodation on Kangaroo Island, and with tourism providing one in every two jobs on the Island, is also driving significant employment and economic growth.”

Zoe Bettison, the South Australia tourism minister, said the new accommodation will help recover Kangaroo Island’s visitor economy “which contributes $161m to the state.”

“It is fantastic to be adding new and improved accommodation to Kangaroo Island – a region which is world-renowned,” she said.

“Kangaroo Island is on the minds of travellers globally, having recently topped coveted lists such as ‘Australia’s Best Beach’ and making the top 10 of New York Times’ 52 places to go.”

The apartments will open in the tail end of 2023.
