‘Luxury is waking up to a 2-million-year-old rainforest’ – YTL Hotel’s Dato Mark Yeoh on the power of experience

Dato’ Mark Yeoh, the executive director of YTL Hotels, greeted journalists in Sydney last night for an exclusive press dinner held at the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel at Circular Quay.

For Yeoh, experience was top of the agenda for luxury travel right now. This is why YTL Hotel’s Pangkor Laut Resort in Malaysia recently hosted the famous Chapman’s Challenge 2024. This year the challenge was completed by by Andrew Reid, popularly known as Reidy, from the renowned Australian series Bondi Rescue.

Participants of The Chapman’s Challenge completed a diverse range of activities, including a 3.8km road run, a 2.4km trek through a pristine 2-million-year-old rainforest, and an invigorating 1km swim in the crystal-clear waters of Emerald Bay.

Reframing the traditional concept of luxury, Yeoh emphasised that true luxury is all about experience. “Luxury is waking up to a 2 million year-old rainforest,” he told guests at yesterday’s dinner.

The next event taking place at the Pangkor Laut Resort will be Opera in Paradise.

Opera in Paradise is said to be “an unforgettable weekend of luxury, culture, and culinary delights”. Guests will indulge in world-class opera performances, gastronomy and hospitality, all amidst Pangkor Laut’s natural surroundings.

Opera in Paradise will take place from 18 – 20 October, 2024. Packages start from approximately AUD $530 and include minimum two nights’ accommodation, daily meals, scheduled speedboat transfers, pre-concert cocktails, and the opera concert followed by a gala dinner.
