Bonza officially kicks off Gold Coast-Darwin route

Bonza officially kicks off Gold Coast-Darwin route
Edited by Travel Weekly

Bonza’s new Gold Coast to Darwin route has arrived to deliver a bright purple streak from the Top End to the Glitter Strip.

The inaugural flight from the Goldie touched down at Darwin Airport just after midnight before returning with customers travelling from the NT to Gold Coast arriving early this morning.

To mark the first flight, over the next five days more than 5,000 seats on all flights to/from Gold Coast to Darwin are on sale and can be snapped up from $89 per person (one way) for travel until the end of May 2024.

The new twice-weekly (Tuesdays/Wednesdays and Fridays/Saturdays) Gold Coast to Darwin route complements Bonza’s other routes in and out of the NT with the Sunshine Coast-Darwin and Melbourne-Alice Springs routes providing affordable air travel to Territorians with regular fares starting from $149 (one way per person).

Bonza CEO, Tim Jordan, said the airline’s move will bring more affordable choices for Gold Coast and Darwin customers.

“With school holidays on the horizon, we’re looking forward to seeing our customers surfing on the Goldie or relaxing on a sunset cruise along the Timor Sea,” Jordan said.

“We thank the Northern Territory Government for its Territory Aviation Attraction Scheme that will create jobs, boost NT tourism and increase competition in the NT skies, which is a win for all travellers.”

Airport Development Group executive general manager – Airports, Rob Porter, also welcomed the new route.

“Airport Development Group has worked closely with Bonza and the Northern Territory Government to bring more affordable flight options to the Territory,” he said.

“We are very pleased to see that Territorians have already embraced Bonza and will now have more opportunity to travel to Queensland with Bonza’s flights between Darwin and the Gold Coast officially commencing.”

Queensland Airports Limited CEO Amelia Evans said the new direct route between Gold Coast Airport and Darwin would provide considerable economic, tourism and business opportunities between the regions.

“The Gold Coast to Darwin route has long been an underserved market, so we are thrilled that Bonza has recognised its potential,” Evans said.

“This direct service signifies a new era of convenient connectivity for travellers – eliminating the need for transits and more time to enjoy both regions.”
