Aldi adds travel collection to its notorious “aisle of shame”

In a world of carefully-curated shops and super-personalised online shopping, Aldi’s “aisle of shame” offers a valuable dose of chaos and surprise.

For those too privileged to have ever stepped foot in an Aldi, the “aisle of shame” is a random middle aisle where the Gods of Aldi carefully place (or chuck) any random cheap goods they can get their grubby mits on.

The beauty of the aisle of shame is that quite literally anything could greet you there – a Dutch milk frother, a hat for your cat, peanut-flavour crisps..you name it.

In a world where tech has made so much known, Aldi’s “aisle of shame” offers a welcome portal into an unpredictable world cloaked in suprise and mystery. It is the supermarket equivalent of Narnia.

Perhaps this is why the aisle has gained a cult online following. The Aldi Aisle of Shame Community on Facebook has nearly 3 million members and there are entire YouTube channels dedicated to the aisle.

And now, in news that will ignite joy into travellers everywhere, Aldi has resurrected its travel Special Buys range.

The new range offers travel items – such as pillows and suitcases – at prices that really will have you thinking you’ve stepped back into another world (or at least this world before inflation took hold).

Items of delight include a hard shell suitcase ($79.99), a travel memory foam pillow ($16.99), a digital Suitcase Scale ($9.99) and a Travel Adaptor Kit ($29.99).

The collection even includes matching clothing sets ($29.99) and sneakers ($19.99) so you and your partner can look like an Aldi-version of Posh and Becks. The collection will make its way into the aisle on the 29th May.

The selection is not Aldi’s first foray into travel gear. Earlier this month it revealed its annual Snow Gear Special Buys range which included over 70 items starting from just $4.99.
