Aviation evolution underway, says Turner

Changes to the aviation landscape look set to continue in 2013 as airlines “innovate and modify” their offerings, according to Flight Centre managing director Graham Turner.

Turner predicted Australian travellers will see a shift in 2013, as the year follows "similar path to 2012".

"We believe 2013 will be another year of significant change as airlines move to distinguish themselves from the competition," he said.

Early indications suggest that margins are likely to rise, Turner revealed, as high profile international carriers such as Malaysia Airlines seek to boost their market-share.

Consolidation among carriers that service Australia is also likely to continue, he said, although he admitted likely partners are becoming harder to identify in Australia with local carriers "now pretty much spoken for". International airlines will also have opportunities to expand or launch Australian services, he added.
