Tourism NZ to host largest ever agent famil

Tourism New Zealand will host 300 of its top selling Australian travel agents on its biggest ever famil in May as the agency steps up its trade marketing and training.

Consultants will gather in Auckland for a day-long workshop before taking part in a dozen itineraries across the country. Tourism NZ, which hatched the plans in collaboration with Emirates, will also use the event to launch a refreshed version of its 100% Pure New Zealand specialist online training program.

Tourism NZ general manager Australia, Tim Burgess, said the move will aim to "fully integrate" the trade into its marketing activity.

"We want to provide agents with everything they need to confidently sell New Zealand," he said. "What better way than by inviting industry to come and experience the destination for themselves?

"We want to generate and convert consumer interest by fully integrating trade into our marketing campaigns."

The training and famils will focus on North and South Island self drive tours, along with food and wine product in the North. All have featured heavily in Tourism NZ's campaigns over the past 12 months.

Emirates vice president Australasia, Barry Brown, said the airline wanted to show its support to agents and NZ.

"Our Tasman bookings and the agents who support these routes are very important to us," he said.
