Tigerair celebrates new Brisbane base

By admin

Tigerair Australia has marked the launch of its new Queensland base with the arrival of a new aircraft in Brisbane and the commencement of two new routes today.

A new Airbus A320 will call Brisbane home from today, and another from April 15, creating around 800,000 extra visitor seats on Tigerair service across Australia annually.

As part of the launch, Tigerair will today commence inaugural flights between Brisbane and Adelaide, and Sydney and Adelaide. There will be six new return Brisbane-Adelaide services a week and daily return Sydney-Adelaide services.

The airline is also launching Sydney-Whitsunday Coast flights on April 1, with three weekly return services, while on April 15 daily return services between Brisbane and Cairns, and Brisbane and Darwin will commence.

Also unveiled today was the expansion of the airline's partnership with BAE Systems to undertake line maintenance. Tigerair says this will create an additional 40 full-time jobs in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. In total, the Queensland base will create more than 200 new jobs in Australia, with about 130 in Brisbane.

"This is a significant milestone for our airline, which is embarking on its future Australian expansion as planned, and great news for the domestic aviation sector, for consumers and for Australian tourism on multiple levels," said Tigerair Australia chief executive Rob Sharp in a statement.

Along with the new base, which will be operational from April, Tigerair has also launched `Web Check' services across its network, allowing passengers to check in online before their flights.
