Tiger Airways will continue its network expansion with the start of direct services between Sydney and Mackay.

From December 17, the airline will operate up to five weekly services between Sydney and Mackay, providing 1800 weekly seats.

It follows last week’s announcement of a new service between Melbourne and Mackay, with 20 new positions to be created at the Queensland airport as a result of the new routes.

Chief executive Andrew David said the airline’s expanding network is a “welcome boost” for domestic tourism and the economy.

“Tiger is expanding its paw-print around Australia and we’re thrilled to be returning to Mackay with new direct services from Australia’s two largest cities,” he said.

“As the only low fare operator providing direct services into Mackay from both Melbourne and Sydney, we’re confident these new services will prove popular.”
