Qatar reports strong Perth demand

Qatar Airways has reported “excellent sales” on its Perth route ahead of its launch on July 3, as the carrier confirmed the service would be upgraded from three times weekly to a daily service.

Chief executive Akbar Al Baker indicated the airline would focus on growing Perth as a “major business destination”.

“Perth is a relatively underserved destination, particularly by Middle Eastern airlines,” he said.

Meanwhile, country manager Australasia Rola Obeid was confident the new service would emerge as a “major new route”.

“We’re already seeing excellent sales on the route, which will later be upgraded to a daily service,” he said. No date for the schedule expansion was disclosed.

He confirmed the carrier was already “fully operational” in the Western Australian capital, with a team in place led by newly-appointed commercial manager, Justin Kestel.

Perth is the carrier’s second destination in Australia after Melbourne.
