Qantas relaxed despite Virgin growth

Qantas relaxed despite Virgin growth
By admin

Qantas has claimed it is unfazed by Virgin Australia’s challenge to take on the carrier in all market sectors.

Speaking at the Tourism and Transport Leadership Forum, chief executive Alan Joyce insisted Qantas remains in a “superb position”, despite the threat posed by Virgin’s pending acquisition of Skywest and its majority stake in Tiger Australia.

“Whatever happens, I know Qantas is in the best position in all segments,” he said. “We’re going to be competitive, no matter what happens in the market.”

Meanwhile, Joyce spoke extensively about the benefits to tourism that he saw resulting from Qantas’s proposed tie-up with Emirates which would see the airline’s code appear in new destinations.

It would also allow Qantas to “concentrate on Asia in its own right”, he said.

“The partnership will increase Australia’s magnetic pull as a destination,” Joyce added.
