Offline distribution still accounts for the majority of travel sales in Asia Pacific, but travellers are steadily shifting to the internet, according to a new report by PhoCusWright.

The Asia Pacific Online Travel Overview revealed online travel bookings in the region would reach $90.8 billion by 2013, with online penetration to reach one quarter of the total travel market, up from 22% in 2011.

Meanwhile, Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) have the highest online travel penetration in Asia Pacific at 36%. Online bookings will account for 41% of Australia and New Zealand’s total travel market in 2013, driven mainly by air.

However, ANZ will be replaced as the second-largest travel market in Asia Pacific by China in 2013.
