Hobbits take over Air NZ aircraft
By admin

The transformation of an Air New Zealand Boeing 777-300 aircraft into a flying billboard for the upcoming Hobbit movie is complete, with its Middle Earth-inspired exterior unveiled in Auckland this morning.

The exterior imagery, which features characters from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, extends along the full length of the 73-metre aircraft.

Air New Zealand chief executive Rob Fyfe said it would excite passengers and fans of the fantasy tale when it starts regular services between Auckland, Los Angeles and London from tonight.

“New Zealand is the home of Middle-earth and The Hobbit movies will be hugely important to New Zealand’s tourism industry in the next couple of years as international tourists are inspired to come and see and experience for themselves the landscapes which have shaped the movies," he said.

“We are thrilled to see so many international visitors booked to travel to Wellington for the world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. We want them to experience the magic of Middle Earth as soon as they set foot on this aircraft.”

The aircraft will also make a brief appearance at a red carpet event in Wellington, just before the movie's premiere on November 28.
