Crown gets nod for Perth plans
By admin

Crown Perth's plans for a new "six star" luxury hotel in the Western Australian capital have moved a step closer as the gaming regulator gave the firm the green light for additional gaming product.

The Gaming and Wagering Commission of Western Australia yesterday gave approval for an additional 500 electronic gaming machines to be phased in over five years, along with an additional 100 table games to be phased in over four years.

It stressed the approval is subject to the casino operator following through on its proposal for six-star hotel Crown Towers Perth at the complex, with its decision hinging on Crown Perth's status as an "overall integrated entertainment complex" rather than simply a gambling facility.

"The Commission also recognised the public interest value of this decision both in terms of the tourism potential and employment opportunities that the improvement of the complex will bring," it said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Crown stressed the new development was vital to attract the expanding Asian tourism market.

"Crown is committed to making Crown Perth a world class entertainment precinct to compete not only in the region with the integrated resorts in Singapore and Macau, but also globally," a statement said.

The development is expected to cost $569 million, taking Crown's investment in Perth to more than $2.2 billion.
