Canada calls on its people for content

The Canadian Tourism Commission has unveiled a new international tourism marketing video, featuring user-generated content shot by Canadians on their smartphones and personal cameras.

The 35 Million Directors project saw more than 8,000 entries flood in over a five-week period.

The resulting two-minute video will be rolled out internationally through marketing campaigns, events, social media and on the front page of CTC's international websites.

Greg Klassen, CTC senior vice president marketing strategy and communications, said the video provided an "authentic perspective" on the destination.

"No one knows better than Canadians how to show off this country," he said.

Meanwhile, minister of state Maxime Bernier said the project would "powerfully" promote Canada to international markets.

"In this age of YouTube, Facebook and social media, 35 Million Directors is a creative and compelling project that allows Canadians to invite the world to come to Canada," she said.
