There has been a sudden surge of Australians buying Euros ready to travel to the Northern hemisphere for the summer holiday season, according to OzForex.

As Australians seek better exchange rates, travel money card use is soaring, revealing travel patterns through currency purchases.

New data from currency specialists OzForex indicated Euros are most popular for June/July travel, followed US dollars and British pounds for Christmas.

Retirees are the biggest users of OzForex's Travel Cards, followed by students, directors, accountants and engineers.

OzForex enjoyed a bumper June with applications for new cards doubling adding to the spike in reloads and record turnover for Euros.

Prepaid travel money cards are enjoying a huge surge in popularity and according to a Research and Markets report, Asia Pacific is the fastest growing regional market for prepaid travel cards.
