Tourism South Australia has launched a new campaign to encourage South Australians to explore their own state.

Local filmmaker Randy Larcombe’s three minute film, ‘Kids, crabs and the best day ever’, is the story of a family on a Yorke Peninsula shack holiday will be shown on the big screen

It will run in cinemas to promote Yorke Peninsula as part of the next installment of the Best Backyard campaign.

Local filmmakers have been engaged to showcase SA with their own vision and experiences in the latest installment of the Best Backyard campaign.

Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said the project has harnessed real people’s perceptions to promote our state.

“The charm of these five new films, which feature Adelaide, the Yorke Peninsula and the Barossa, is that they allow passionate, talented and creative locals to tell personal stories, which adds a powerful authenticity,” he said

“So far, more than 50 local filmmakers, editors, producers and musicians have been involved, with more films to be commissioned and released throughout the year.”

The films have already been viewed nearly a quarter of a million times on YouTube.

Randy Larcombe said: “I wanted to show a typical family shack holiday on the Yorke Peninsula, so we packed the car, met some friends at the shack and let the camera roll for two days".

“Kids find fun in the simplest things – they slip into another world of their own making, where the days seem to go on forever without interruption,” he added.
