Airline deals rake in cash for TA
Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy has again shrugged off the loss of Qantas’s marketing dollars as he revealed it has more than made up the deficit by forging closer ties with other carriers.
After revealing details of a new $6 million, three-year deal with Air New Zealand, McEvoy said TA has struck 24 joint airline deals this year – minus Qantas – worth $36 million.
Last year it generated $30m which included Qantas cash, from 17 deals.
“So yes, we have more than made up the money that Qantas is not spending with us,” McEvoy said.
The good news is that Qantas is still spending money with the states, he added.
McEvoy reiterated that TA is still open to working with the flag carrier.
“They are a great carrier and we have had a long and strong partnership with them,” he said. “We are open to working with them anytime they want to work with us.”
McEvoy refused to be drawn on whether Qantas would partner with Tourism Australia for ATE in Cairns next year.
“We are in negotiations with airline partners but we have not had a final decision,” he said.
