Tiger further expands network

Tiger Australia has added four new domestic routes to its expanding network, marking its return to both the Sunshine Coast and Alice Springs.

A new service between Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast will commence on March 27, with Sydney-Cairns to follow on April 4. Sydney-Alice Springs and Melbourne-Alice Springs services will both start on April 9.

Commercial director Carly Brear said the new routes will come as welcome news for cosnumers, local economies and the airline.

"We are confident that a lot of our current and future customers will be very happy that we are bringing Tiger's low fares to more of Australia," she said.

"Tiger's new services to Cairns and Sunshine Coast further increase our presence in Queensland, which is an ever popular state for our customers to visit and also provide additional connectivity for Queensland residents who have been extremely supportive of Tiger's services to date."

This month, the low cost carrier expects to carry its 10 millionth customer since Australian operations began in November 2007.

The competition regulator's decision on its proposed joint venture with Virgin Australia, which will see Virgin take a 60% stake in the airline, is scheduled for tomorrow.
