“We are reconnecting with the world”: Singapore flings open its border to all vaccinated travellers

Singapore is the latest Asian country to lift restrictions for all vaccinated travellers from next week.

From 1 April, fully vaccinated adults and unvaccinated children will be allowed to visit the country without quarantining, shifting from its Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VLTs) approach to a new Vaccinated Travel Framework.

According to Singapore’s Minister for Transport, S Iswaran, quarantine free travel will be extended to fully vaccinated people from all over the world provided they have not been in countries or regions on the restricted list seven days prior. There are currently no destinations on the list.

Under the new framework, short-term visitors will no longer need to apply for entry approval and fully-vaccinated travellers will no longer need to take an on-arrival test.

However, arrivals will still need to submit a negative pre-departure test result taken within two days of departure for Singapore.

“This shift to the Vaccinated Travel Framework is a decisive step for Singapore and an important signal to the world – that Singapore has fully reopened its borders, that we are reconnecting with the world, and reclaiming Changi’s status as an international aviation hub,” Iswaran said.

As a result, Singapore Airlines and its subsidiary Scoot will no longer designate specific Vaccinated Travel Lane, however, existing customers who are currently booked on a VTL flight on or after 1 April 2022 may travel as planned.

Travellers, regardless of vaccination status, will be allowed to transit through Singapore on almost all SIA and Scoot flights from 1 April as long as they meet the entry requirements of their final destination.

This opens up the entire Singapore Airlines and Scoot network to all eligible customers, with flights operating from 97 destinations in 34 countries.

“It will allow our customers to plan for their holidays, and reconnect families and loved ones, while also supporting the growing demand for business travel,” a spokesperson for Singapore Airlines said.

“We look forward to welcoming our customers on board our flights, where they will enjoy our warm hospitality and world-class products and services.

“The SIA Group will continue to closely monitor travel demand, and increase our capacity and services accordingly.”
