Tigerair turns plane around mid-flight due to “written threat”

A Tigerair flight flying from Sydney to Melbourne abruptly flew back to Sydney mid-flight without explanation yesterday.

According to media sources, the reason for the sudden turn back was because of a safety issue after a “written threat” was found on board.

The flight, TT271, departed Sydney at 7.05pm and touched back down again in Sydney at 8.35pm.

Once it had landed back in Sydney, police surrounded the plane and passengers were told to stay seated and stay off their phones.

Though, not everyone heeded this advice, with many passengers tweeting at Tigerair asking for an explanation.

In response to the tweets, Tigerair wrote: “Hi Stevie, Please be assured your safety is always our highest priority.

“The Captain decided to return to Sydney following an incident onboard and we’re working with relevant authorities to investigate the matter.

“We hope to have an update for passengers as soon as we can.- Kylie”

An investigation into the threat is currently underway.
