The hottest ticket since Taylor Swift: Inca Trail permit 2024
Edited by Travel Weekly

World Expeditions’ Inca Trail permits are officially on sale and travellers are reminded to get in fast if they want to trek to Machu Picchu in 2024.

A perennial A-lister, the Inca Trail is one of the world’s top three adventure travel experiences which World Expeditions says can be harder to secure than a Taylor Swift ticket!

To protect this historical treasure from overuse, a permit system was introduced, allowing only 500 people per day on the trail.

A permit is required for everyone on the trail including trekkers, cooks, porters, and even guides, due to the daily limit, most last-minute travellers tend to miss out.

“With such a limited supply of permits available for one of the world’s most in-demand adventure experiences, the Inca Trail can be very hard to access if not planned in advance,” CEO, World Expeditions, Sue Badyari, said.

“We encourage all prospective travellers to be aware of the urgency in booking their Inca Trail travel early to ensure their spot on this unforgettable journey.”

World Expeditions, an approved tour operator, includes the permit cost in its all-inclusive trip pricing.

“The most popular time to hike the Inca Trail is between May and August, and permits for May and June often sell out within days, sometimes hours, after release. To secure your preferred travel dates, it’s strongly recommended to book your Inca Trail trek at least 6-8 months in advance.”

If Inca Trail permits are unavailable, or for those who prefer a path less travelled, World Expeditions offers alternatives like the Salcantay Treks and Inca Rivers Trek, providing opportunities to explore unique routes with fewer crowds and access other remarkable Inca Ruin sites.

Another option is the 1-day permit, which allows travellers to trek the final section of the Inca Trail to the Sun Gate and Machu Picchu. This alternative is available on several of World Expeditions’ Peru adventures, providing an awe-inspiring view of this iconic wonder.

World Expeditions has over 40 years of experience in offering fully-supported walking tours in Peru, ensuring high-quality experiences for trekkers and adventurers.
