Philippines to host agent events with social media twist

Tourism Philippines will hold a series of trade events in Australia with the main aim of showing agents how to use social media to entice travellers to the destination.

The events will take place in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in April  and will feature presentations from “major” social media platforms to give agents the necessary skills to capitalise on this increasingly important business tool.

Norjamin Delos Reyes, Tourism Attaché at Philippine Department of Tourism Australia and New Zealand, confirmed that Australia is the fifth most significant market for the Philippines in terms of tourism numbers, with around 250,000 Aussies visiting the destination in 2015.

“We believe these trade events will offer a fresh perspective and unique opportunity for agents to not only learn about all that the Philippines has to offer, but also provide a chance to find out about how social media can assist in building brand awareness, how to reach consumers and selling the ideal destination,” he said.

“In today’s social media era, ensuring that agents are well equipped to manage and utilise digital platforms is beneficial to agents, agencies and travel destinations alike, including the Philippines.  Australia has over 14,000,000 monthly Facebook users and 5,000,000 monthly active users on Instagram*, therefore it is a space where a high number of potential consumers interact every day.  At Tourism Philippines we believe that investing in agents by offering insights such as these, are key to ensuring that we are all industry innovators.”

To coincide with the events, Tourism Philippines will also host a “Mega Famil” for around 60 agents throughout Australia to experience the Philippines first-hand with more details to follow shortly.
